The Burnt Hill Herb Co. bring a new product to market

Piled up vegetables.
Mentoring provided by Business Kirklees Start-up West Yorkshire helped The Burnt Hill Herb Co. bring a new product to market.

The Burnt Hill Herb Co. uses unique aquaponic farming methods to grow a variety of crops, including herbs, salads, vegetables and tomatoes, alongside Rainbow Trout at their farm in the Yorkshire Pennines.   Using circular economy principles, The Burnt Hill Herb Co, is committed to ethical and sustainable farming practises, using organic feed, pure rainwater ponds, no pesticides, no insecticides and generating no waste and delicious food!

Business Kirklees Startup manager, Tracy Sheldon, provided a sounding board for ideas, and helped to connect The Burnt Hill Herb Co. to the right people and local businesses to support the development of a new product, Smoked Trout.  The business invested in a smokehouse, and customers can now purchase luxurious smoked trout – cold smoked for 8 hours over beechwood and oak with a secret curing mix.

Founder Jon Allen said

“Tracy Sheldon has provided invaluable advice and shared considerable number of contacts in her national and local network, which has been hugely beneficial in helping us develop our new product.”

The Burnt Hill Herb Co are constantly striving to innovate and improve and are committed to reducing their carbon footprint by using renewable energy to power the farm.  The company takes pride in sourcing ingredients, equipment, and expertise locally, and believe that supporting the local community is an essential part of their mission.
